Cocofiji Coconut Oil is organic. We know this for a fact, as we test our oil regularly, and there are no traces of synthesised chemical matter in our oil.
We also collect our coconuts weekly from the villages and know the regions where our coconuts are coming from. We have set up an association to ensure organic principles are adhered to.
None of our coconuts are coming from large scale plantations. There are no “farms” for us to collect from and as a result attaining “certification” becomes somewhat irrelevant. Certification is relevant when you are sourcing from a farm. In that case you can differentiate your source as an organic farm relative to a non-organic farm. In our case certification is irrelevant…. We source wildly.
The irony is if we sourced from a single coconut farm the “organic certification process” is easy rather than sourcing wildly, as nature intended. Nature did not intend farms, farms reduce the biodiversity in a given area. Where possible sourcing wildly is the preferable option.
We choose not to restrict the supply of our coconuts to one area as an organic farm, to ensure the associated benefits flow to several communities, and not just one organic farm.We prefer to create a market for our coconuts by collecting wild coconuts wherever they may grow in Fiji, always knowing their source.
We think this is a fairer and a more ethical way of doing business. There are some foods that rarely have chemicals in them due to the size of the plant and the unnecessary use of chemicals for them to grow, coconuts are one of these foods. All our coconuts are grown under natural conditions without the use of chemical fertilisers or sprays as are all wild coconuts in Fiji. The question more importantly is whether chemicals are used in the processing of the coconut oil. In our case, we guarantee we don’t not use any chemicals to extract Cocofiji coconut oil.
It doesn’t make sense to add chemicals to coconut trees as they grow exceptionally well in Fiji due to the natural healthy soils and it doesn’t make sense to waste money on chemicals sprays.
We understand that 75 million coconuts are left on the ground each year in Fiji. We wish to create a market for these coconuts.
CocoFiji are proud supporters of the pacific organic group who we are working with CocoFiji and local producers to gain organic certification in a wildly sourced context.
This means we will verify that all our coconuts are sourced wildly from designated areas that adhere to organic principles.
